What you get
Day 1: Leaving Auckland
Leave NZ's biggest city behind and journey north to the beautiful Bay of Islands. Stop off at Parry Kauri Park and wander along the woodland boardwalks among 800-year old Kauri trees.
Day 2: Bay of Islands
A full free day to explore this cluster of 144 islands. Learn about the infamous Treaty of Waitangi at the local museum, take a ferry across to Russell, NZ's first capital, or hit the beach.
Day 3: Back to Auckland
Visit the enchanting Whangarei Falls en route to Auckland. Spend the evening in the city. Check out the funky harbourside areas and grab a drink in one of the many independent micro-breweries.
Day 4: Maori Marae
Discover the Waitomo Caves, home of glimmering glow-worms. Spend the night in a traditional Maori meeting house. Learn about Maori customs and witness the powerful Haka and Poi dances.
Day 5: Rotorua
Rotorua is famous for its bubbling sulphurous waters and pungent odour. Spend the day in the local mud baths and rejuvenating spas or see the nearby Hobbiton movie set.
Day 6: Taupo
Leave Rotorua and journey to the vast glittering waters of Lake Taupo, the largest lake in New Zealand. See the plummeting Huka Falls and relax on the shores of the lake.
Day 7: Tongariro National Park
Delve into the dramatic volcanic landscapes of Tongariro National Park. For the ultimate experience, embark on the epic 7-hour Tongariro Crossing.
Day 8: Wellington
New Zealand's capital is known for its artsy, hipster vibes. After a visit to the Te Papa Museum and a tour of the city, including Mt Victoria, you're free to explore.
Day 9: The South Island
Cruise across the Cook Strait to the South Island. Drive along to the sprawling vineyards of the Marlborough region and stop for a private tasting of New Zealand's famous Sauvignon Blanc.
Day 10: Nelson
Overlooking the gorgeous waters of the Tasman Bay, Nelson is the perfect springboard for discovering the tropical surroundings of Abel Tasman National Park.
Day 11: Kaikoura
Travel to the east coast and explore Kaikoura. See the seals at Ohau Point and hike the rugged peninsula trail. Make sure to try the crayfish - it's to die for.
Day 12: Kaikoura
Kaikoura is the perfect spot to go whale watching. Head out on an optional boat trip and see these majestic creatures up close. Then journey south to Christchurch.
Day 13: Mountains and fields
Stop off in atmospheric Hokitika and then see the captivating snow-capped peaks of the Southern Alps reflected in the still waters of Lake Matheson.
Day 14: Fox Glacier
Opt to hike to Fox Glacier, a river of ice that plunges out of the mountains to the forested lowlands. Continue your journey past the picturesque Lake Wanaka and Lake Hawea to Queenstown.
Day 15: Queenstown
Whether it be jet boating, sky diving, canyon swinging, or just sitting at a bar and relaxing, there's something for everyone in this adrenaline-pumping town.
Day 16: Queenstown
Same again. Get involved with anything you missed out on yesterday or slow down the pace and soak up the relaxed Kiwi way of life.
Day 17: Milford Sound
Journey southeast to Milford Sound, a beautiful network of waterways, streaming waterfalls and lazing seal colonies. Explore by boat and don't forget your camera.
Day 18: Lake Ohau
Explore the Arrow river on a mountain bike and imagine gold panning settlers in the shallows. Spend the evening on the placid shores of Lake Ohau, surrounded by breath-taking mountain scenery.
Day 19: Christchurch
Check out the glittering blue waters of Lake Tekapo and venture deep into mountain country at Mt village. Carry on across Cook country to Christchurch, where the tour ends.

Your tour begins in Auckland at 8:30am on day 1. Due to this early start, we recommend you fly into Auckland at least the day before and book an extra night of accommodation in the city. We can help you organise this. The tour ends at approximately 7pm in Christchurch on day 19. Due to this late finish, we recommend spending an extra night in the city and flying out the next day.
